The ellipse, hyperbola and parabola are familiar to anyone who has studied
analytical geometry in high school. They were known and used by Greeks since antiquity, in
constructions and theoretical geometry. Nowadays, the conics are used even for modeling the
movement of subatomic particles, satellites or galaxies. The purpose of this paper is to bring to
your attention the definition and main characteristics of conics, to create exact and
approximate figures using the ruler and the compass and to present various tools that can be
