Abstract:
In the present paper, the effect of different tillage methods on soil fertility and field crops yield of a carbonate cernozem from Center part (Republic of Moldova), has been studied in order to minimize soil tillage in crop rotation by decreasing the number of moldboard plowing. The following tillage methods have been studied during 1989–2002 in a 8 fields crop rotation: moldboard ploughing (control); cultivator application; combined method – I, (rotation of moldboard ploughing and cultivator application with predominance of moldboard ploughing); combined method – II (rotation of moldboard ploughing and cultivator application with predominance of cultivator application). The soil tillage methods of the experiments have been established on three treatments of fertilizers. The study has been conducted to observe effect of tillage methods on soil moisture content, bulk density, soil structure, nutrient content and field crops yield. There has been observed differences in bulk density of arable stratum, soil structure, weed density and weed bank. The effect of arable stratum differentiation according physical and chemical propriety has been confirmed. The combined method of soil tillage is recommended to maintain yield of field crops and productivity of crop rotation at the level of moldboard ploughing.
